Part 23. A Rose Among The Wolves

Tears awakened Teller in the middle of the night. Someone was crying. He heard silent weeping so close.
He looked at Kaija but she was sleeping so calm on his shoulder kindly embracing him.
Weeping became louder, it was right behind him. It was a child….

…Kaija looked at her hands. A moment ago she saw bloodred tracks on her milk-like skin. She sighed and eyed Teller.
His sight was worried and a bit confused.

— For a couple of weeks I have weird and scary dreams… Bad nightmares are haunting me everywhere. I just… I don’t know what to do. Wolf.. I mean Teller… Oh dear, I’m totally broken.
— Calm down, calm down… what nightmares? About vampires or that dark shadow?
— The shadow. And now bloodtracks on my hands…
— Again? Hmm… — he looked at her and closed his eyes. — Breathe deep and close your eyes. I need to see it all.

She obeyed and closed her eyes. He took her hand and bent to her neck kissing her gently and biting then. She didn’t even move. He took a sip and another one and another, the last one. She did the same with him.
They had their own methods and ways of looking through eachother’s memories and nightmares.

He could hardly stop. Always her blood had a very special power over him.
Kaija shouldn’t bite him because he only needed her blood to read her thoughts. But she felt that deep desire which she wanted to follow, to drown in it like in the endless ocean…

— So… what do you think? — whispered she opening her eyes. He was looking at her with tears in his eyes.
— It’s haunting you. It wants you, it wants your blood… — said he holding her hand tight.
— What is that? Do you know? — asked she still feeling the taste of his blood in her mouth. She felt it on her lips and she slowly licked it from her lips.
He caught her blurry sight, her dreamy eyes looking at him with wish and desire.
Very carefully he bent to her and kissed her lips. He felt the taste of his own blood and tried to remember one thing.

— Yes, it’s a Night of Silver Moon. But why? Oh my God… — sighed she remembering Haave’s words.
— I couldn’t… I… I don’t want this.. not this price. Forgive me… — whispered he to her and sat on the bed.
— If I didn’t bite you too… it’s my fault after all. Teller… dear… Kulta, it should be. It was meant to be so then. You’re this innocence in me.

She took his hand and looked deep in his eyes. Waves of dreamful ocean captivated him and put in that deep blue prison of that wistful sea.
Kaija kissed him kindly and lay near him. Soon they fell asleep holding eachother’s hands tight.

…Weeping was getting closer and closer.

— Princessa… — silent voice called.

‘But it’s a…’ — thought he and turned around.

That was a child. She wept and looked at him with her eyes full of tears.

— Give her back!
