St. Petersburg

I close my eyes to redeem
Into a neverfading dream,
To walk those gardens again —
Same paths and parks, the same
Castles and ponds, silent woods dear to heart
Where I dreamed, where I loved…

Secret thought through the mind —
Hidden dream caressing a heart.
Silent hopes of a dreamy child —
Believing within in every fated part.

Bearing a feel, burning within,
Yet but hidden still…
I never dared to reveal
The most beautiful thrill —
My ever torture and fleeting relief…

White nights, starlit hopes,
Endeavours to touch lone dream’s shores
So far from the real I used to live…
I dreamed through the daylike nights to see
A spark of long-lived eternity —
Spirit of dear innocent memory…

Ancient streets will carry my dreams
Embracing every thought,
Every hope of heart, sweet beliefs
In words I wrote and forgot.
All the heart it will keep still,
Dear memory of the town so old
I wished to call home…
