Once Given Promises

There was the throne you used to sit on
In the kingdom you had once drawn
A memory, but fleeting time lost forevermore

Maybe there was someone you loved
But never cared of
King of his own, master of his own fate
You never saw the truth dwelling in your head

A promise once given now lies forlorn
Birds frozen in a picture long for the dawn
Once singing of starlight and autumn gold
Now drown in white memory cold

Maybe there is the truth to hide
Deeper than heart lies
Maybe there is a rhyme I’ll never write
Somewhere in your eyes
But you were always too blind to see
The simple things you used to sing

I cannot touch the sky
Dream of sunlight beneath the ocean kite
Cannot believe the tales within my heart
Desire more than the whole lifetime side by side

Maybe there is the truth to hide
A lone heart of mine
Maybe there is a name I will never sigh
Sharing a dream with morning sky
But hiding a tear inside where none can find
I write the tales for an untouched heart weeping behind

All I used to love now sings to me
Breaking one last goodbye in a midnight scene
Those promises you didn’t keep in one starlit dream
