Slayers

A girl passes by
With blue ribbons in her dark hair
She walks across the street
When they come

She smiles for the last time
Before they shoot
Wide open eyes stare at the clear sky

Monsters of our world
Slaying their kin
Calling themselves heroes
They paint the earth with blood
Ashes and dirt

Making others bow and kneel
Before them as they walk in
Why should I pray for them
Dark scum, rotten filth

Tell me, please
Why we should slay our own kin
For ghosts of hopes
They are never real
So why we should shed rivers of blood

Why should I see it all
Scarlet dust beyond
Bloodred ground under my feet?
Why should I feel the pain for all
Torn bodies, raped souls?
This is not the world of what I’ve dreamed
