Promise

He sailed away without a word
Leaving me on that shore
Alone with my oath

A promise he should once keep
Flew away along with him
Withering in the sea dark and deep

Alone in winter cold
Tears turned to ice
I still watch the horizon
Looking for another hope
To dream of once dear eyes

Above the white I see the crow
Drawn upon the coast
It whispered to me — “He won’t come back,
Don’t wait.”

Alone with my oaths I bear a wait
Seeking one with a heart
As pure as my promise
I once gave a word to keep
